Autodesk® Viz 2005 is the 3D modeling, rendering,
and animation software for creating photorealistic design
visualizations. Use Autodesk VIZ to explore design
concepts, communicate design intent, and share your
work to clients and prospects. Autodesk VIZ makes
the creation process flexible - with straightforward
modeling features and unique interoperability with other
Autodesk® design applications. Data management
is more efficient with features such as the layer manager,
Architectural materials, and Schematic Views.
And, most important, you can clearly and accurately
share your design ideas using advanced global illumination
process (including mental ray® rendering technology)
that capture even the most subtle effects for compellingly
realistic 3D visualizations.

- New polygon-based modeler for greater efficiency and performance.
- Using the enhanced DWG Linking you move smoothly between Autodesk Viz and the Autodesk Design solutions (AutoCAD, Architectural Desktop, Land Desktop and AutoCAD Map).
- Support for AutoCAD® blocks through file linking and access to block components for material assignment and editing.
- An improved substitution command makes it easier to swap out 2D blocks or symbols that may have bee appropriate in a CAD drawing for 3D elements more appropriate for 3D visualization.
- Improvements to the graphical user interface to increase productivity (includes resizable viewports and context-sensitive Quad menus).
- Default material mapping automatically applies preset materials to common objects as they are generated.

- Improved layer support control that is more consistant with Autocad software. Layer dialog menu now shows the heirarchical relationship of layers and objects.

- Rich lighting and environment effects can be applied after an image has been rendered, Rendered Effects lets you interactively adjust secondary lens effects such as glows, stars and streaks as well as other effects.
- Advanced rendering algorithms enable you to produce detailed design renderings that are photorealistic.
- Hidden line render options lets you incorporate your 3D design into AutoCAD or technical illustration programs.
- Direct printing option lets you produce printed output from laser printers or large- format plotters directly.
- Free network rendering lets you render complex animations by leveraging the processing power or up to 10,000 networked PC's.
